FAQs

Q
Do you do individual family research not involving legal matters?
A
I do not. I specialize in the unique needs of the legal and real estate professions. I am happy to recommend genealogists that can assist you with personal genealogies.
Q
How much time does it take to research a family history?
A
It is difficult to estimate the duration of a genealogical search as you never know what you may find or how long it will take to obtain needed information. As a result, it is always a good idea to put a financial cap on how much you wish to spend. Should something requiring additional time or expense present itself in the course of the search, I will notify you immediately, and you can decide if you wish to continue any further.
Q
Are you a private investigator?
A
I am not. I have clients who are private investigators and would be happy to make recommendations if that is a service you need.
Q
Are you an heir finder or heir tracer?
A
Much of my work is similar to what private investigators and heir tracers do, yet I am not one myself. If you need such services, I will be happy to make recommendations.
Q
Do you do your research strictly online?
A
I do not. As much of the documentation, data and information needed for a proper family history is not online, I regularly conduct field research.
Q
Have you ever appeared in probate court as an expert witness?
A
Yes. I have appeared numerous times as an expert witness in the state of Connecticut.
Q
Are you insured?
A
Yes. I carry errors and omissions (E/O) insurance.
Q
Do you work internationally? If so, where?
A
Yes, I do. I work with professional genealogists in the countries involved since they have the immediate knowledge and expertise regarding local rules/laws/regulations relative to vital records research and who can obtain them. While I would like to say I can work anywhere in the world, the reality is there are countries that consider vital records not for public purview or research. If you have a case requiring international genealogical research, probate research, estate research, or other research, I will check the availability of records accordingly and let you know if I can access them or not prior to accepting your case.
Q
What limitations, if any, are there when conducting international research?
A
Time can be a factor. Depending on the country, political climate, etc., it can take more time for research or even just to obtain a document than here in the United States. Also, who can do the research or obtain documents can vary from place to place. I will research the country/countries involved and advise what research can be done and documents obtained prior to accepting your case.
Q
Do you meet virtually with clients?
A
Yes. In addition to in person meetings, I am also available for teleconference or videoconference.
